2015 REVOLT SUMMER SURF SERIES WRAP

ANOTHER EPIC SEASON OF THE RSSS PIER TO PIER PRO AM COMES TO A DRAMATIC FINISH SENDING LEANDRO USUNA TO FIJI!

The 2015 season saw a record breaking increase in International signups. Each event had athletes from around the globe competing against some of the finest surfers that southern California has to offer. Yoysis Delgado, The Urcia brothers & many others from Brazil, Central & South Americas were seen competing this year.

Top Pro Am surfers this season included WSL athletes Jake Marshall & Francisco Bellerin facing off against Vince Boulanger, Brandon Roberts, Jay Christenson and JD Lewis to name just a few – It was Jacob Mario Szekely that took top honors after consistently competing in all events.

Women’s Pro Am saw Marissa Shaw,  Maya Saulino & Brandy Jester battling it out at each event. Ultimately it was Marissa who took home the 2015 Women’s title.

Leandro Usuna, Brady Ruysschaert, Chuck Glynn & Daniel Huges all took first place in their respective divisions at the Battle At Beachfest to finish out the season.

The day started with pristine weather and average chest to head-high surf. The Pro’s were ready to pounce on any waves that rolled through and came out of the gates swinging. The first few heats were highlighted by some solid rail-work and a flurry of tail-high airs by local grom and early favorite Jay Christenson.

Many of the regional competitors that showed up for the final event were seasoned veterans of the contest – most if not all of them have returned year after year to compete in Southern California’s longest running independent Surfing contest. Some (like Jay Christenson) have competed in all 9 seasons!

The surfers were pumped and ready when their heats were called. Standouts from previous contests like local Jacob Szekely and transplants from afar like Brandon Roberts and Francisco Bellarin were in fine form – bashing lips and throwing spray like there was no tomorrow.

Athough it was recently relocated Leandro “Lele” Usuna from Argentina who stole the show surfing the smaller waves with abandon and peaking in the final where we saw hacks and turns that have made him the threat that he is on the WSL QS.

Ranked just outside the top 100 he surely has the talent to go as far as his will can take him, he was incredibly fun to watch and deserving of the grand prize that included an all expenses paid trip to Fiji.

ABOUT THE RSSS – PIER II PIER – PRO AM

For 9 years, RVLT Surf has been dedicated to the establishment and development of this unique, independent surf series. Now, one of the largest surf series in Southern California, the RSSS is widely supported by surfers and media from around the globe.

In 2015 surfers traveled from as far away as Japan, UK, South Africa, Venezuela & Peru to compete in the events. Five stops made up the series, w/ each event held at classic summer beach breaks near busy beach & boardwalk areas including Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Ocean Beach.

These events allow surfers to gain contest experience or advance their skills in a safe, professional, and stress free arena. The goal continues to be, promoting the entire sport of surfing, sportsmanship, social responsibility and family values, year after year.

Other elements, including Live Music product demo’s, raffles, giveaways & beach games, add to the festival atmosphere. Onsite activation with eco friendly products, beach clean-ups and recycling programs at each event is not only smart, but sends a great message. We care!

Each year the RSSS partners with .orgs including the Surfrider Foundation, SD Coastkeepers, Ocean Force and charities including SD Burn Institute, Susan B Komen & Swell Hearts to help them raise awareness and much needed funding at each event.

The final event of the season – the RSSS PRIME is held during the Battle At Beach Fest the first weekend of October. The BAB showcases top Pro Am Surfing, The SD County Firefighter & Lifeguard Surfing Challenge, Pro Am SUP Surfing & Ocean Paddle Distance Racing.

This unique sporting event is run during and alongside Pacific Beachfest, a massive festival that features live music, hundreds of vendors, food & beer gardens and attracts an estimated 70,000 people to the PB beach & boardwalk area.

RVLT SURF is supported by Red Bull, Kicker Audio, RediNation, Geico Insurance, Westcoast Paddle Sports, SPY Optics, Essentia Water, The Shrackle Box, UAPO Surf, Liquid Foundation Surf Shop, Rip Curl Surf Shops, Saltwater Surf & Supply, Aztek Paddles, 91X fm, The Branding Lab, Maker Place, Mission Bay Sports Center, Elite Paddle Training @MBSC, Futures Fins, Victory Kore Dry, OEX Point Loma, CREED SUP, Kings Paddle Sports, YOLOboards, ISLE Surf & Sup, Desolation Outdoors SUP, FOCUS SUP, Topless Boardbags, KONOS Coffee, Big Bear Mountain Resorts, Laser Trees, The Inn At Sunset Cliffs, Haggen Foods, Rock and Roll San Diego, Discover PB, The Surfrider Foundation, Ocean Force Foundation, Sea Save Foundation, The San Diego Burn Institute, SurfersVillage.com, XtremeVideo, Planet X TV & Revolt In Style Magazine.
