WSL GWM SYDNEY SURF PRO
WSL Longboard Competition Called ON at GWM Sydney Surf Pro Presented By Rip Curl
The GWM Sydney Surf Pro presented by Rip Curl, the second stop of the 2022 World Surf League (WSL) Challenger Series (CS) and the first stop of the 2022 WSL Longboard Tour, has been called on at Manly Beach with the Round of 16 of the men’s Longboard competition to start at 7:35 a.m. AEST. Conditions are super clean with waves in the one-to-two foot range on offer. Longboard Quarterfinals for men and women are on standby with the Challenger Series event being called off for the day.
The opening heat of the morning will see former World Champion Phil Rajzman (BRA) take on perennial title threat and surfer shaper Ben Skinner (GRB) in what will be a battle of the powerhouses of the Longboard Tour.
The fifth heat of the men’s event will see an all Aussie matchup between Manly born Jack Entwistle (AUS) and 2021 WSL Longboard World Title runner-up Harrison Roach (AUS) as both surfers look to stamp their authority on the tour for 2022.
How The WSL Longboard Tour Works
The first two events of the season at Manly Beach and Huntington Beach will be worth up to 5,000 rankings points each, while the final event in Malibu, the Longboard World Championships, will award 10,000 points to the winners. The World Titles will be awarded to the highest-ranked woman and man based on their best two results out of the three events.
Now that the early rounds have been completed, the remaining rounds through to finals will integrate with the Challenger Series event which begins tomorrow, running through to Tuesday May 24.
