A Decades-Long Love Affair with Smith Optics

Some brand relationships come and go. Others stick around long enough to become part of the story. For Revolt In Style, Smith Optics has been one of those brands.

They were there early – one of the original sponsors of the Revolt Summer Surf Series Pro Am – and they did not just slap a logo on the event and call it a day. Smith showed up on the sand with real activations, fun games, and challenges that pulled in both athletes and beach spectators. Their presence added energy to the event and helped make those days feel bigger than just another contest on the beach.

And then there were the Swag Bags…

Anyone who competed in the Revolt Surf Series Pro Am and landed near the top knew those infamous swag bags were part reward, part treasure chest. Smith sunglasses were always one of the standout pieces – the kind of product people actually wanted, actually wore, and remembered long after the event tents came down. Let’s not forget the scores of t-shirts & hats thrown out to spectators and included in those swag bags – their branding efforts could be seen on surfers and beach-goers for years… Brilliant!

That same connection carried over into our Summer and Winter Gear Guides, where Smith has been a consistent contributor for more than a decade. And that is not some throwaway line. Brand participation in gear guides can be a one-season thing. Smith kept showing up with products that earned their place year after year. Check the latest Gear Guide HERE

A valued contributor to the Revolt In Style Gear Guides for years

In the summer, they helped protect our heads with mountain bike helmets and goggles, while their sunglasses became part of the daily uniform. In the winter, Smith snow helmets and goggles were always part of the conversation – on the drive up, in the parking lot, and especially on those lift rides to the summit when people start comparing gear and asking what you are running.

That is the difference between a brand being included and a brand actually making an impression.

For both Leslie and me, Smith Optics has also been part of daily life in a very real way. Our day-to-day sunglasses have been supplied by Smith for close to 15 years, and that alone says a lot. A lot of products come through Revolt In Style over time. That is part of the job and part of the fun. Some items get tested, some get gifted, some get donated, and some simply move on to make room for the next round of gear.

But Smith sunglasses tend to stay put.

They stay on our faces until they are scratched beyond saving, taken out in a crash on the trail, or disappear into the kind of watery grave that seems to happen more often than we would like to admit – the bottom of a lake, some ocean inlet, or wherever a paddle session decides to claim another pair. And yes, we have tried other brands that promise floating frames and water-friendly features. Some were fine. None really matched the combination of style, comfort, and quality that kept bringing us back to Smith.

A huge part of that comes down to the ChromaPop lens.

It is one of those product features that sounds like marketing speak until you actually wear it. Then the difference becomes obvious. The way it enhances contrast and sharpens the view is no joke. Everything looks better, clearer, and more alive. Trails pop. Water looks richer. Terrain becomes easier to read. Snow gets more definition. Once you get used to that kind of clarity, it is hard to go backwards.

And when you step up to the glass lens option, the extra weight is more than worth it. In fact, that slight added heft makes the glasses feel more substantial and solid, while the scratch resistance holds up in a way that keeps paying off over time. They feel like a product built to be used, not babied. That’s probably the best way to sum up our long relationship with Smith Optics.

They have never just been another logo in the lineup. They have been part of our events, part of our gear coverage, part of our lifestyle, and part of our everyday routine for years. From the beach to the bike trail to the mountain and back again, Smith has earned its place the old-fashioned way – by consistently making products that look good, perform, and hold up.

That kind of longevity is rare.

And after all these years, Smith Optics still feels less like a sponsor from the archives and more like one of those trusted brands that never really left the rotation.
