VICTORY AT SAN O!

Surfrider is excited to announce that California State Parks and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton have finalized a new lease agreement for San Onofre State Beach. This 25-year lease between State Parks and the Marine base ensures continued public access, management, and protection of this treasured coastal resource well into the future.

This achievement is a major victory for the “San O” community and the countless visitors who come from around the country and the world each year to enjoy its natural beauty and surf. This new lease not only safeguards public access but also reinforces Surfrider’s ongoing campaign for a resilient shoreline at San Onofre State Beach. Your support, along with the dedication of our partners at the San Onofre Parks Foundation, played a crucial role in making this victory possible. San Onofre State Beach is the ancestral home of the Achajamen village of Panhe, a vital native habitat that supports 12 endangered species, sits at the mouth of one of the last undammed streams in California, and hosts multiple world-renowned surf breaks. This rare, undeveloped coastal gem is more than a surfing haven—it’s a vital cultural, environmental, and recreational resource. Surfrider remains dedicated to ensuring this incredibly rare stretch of coastline remains protected, undeveloped, and accessible to the public for generations to come.
