SUNDAY X3 PADDLE RACE SERIES // 2013 – 2018

The SUNDAY X3 Paddle Race Series carved out a unique legacy in Southern California’s paddle scene—part grassroots gathering, part elite competition. Held on select Sundays across five action-packed years, the series brought together SUP athletes, weekend warriors, and ocean-loving families for fast-paced races, community vibes, and post-paddle beach hangs. What began as a local challenge quickly grew into a celebrated series that helped define a generation of West Coast paddle racing.

RVLT Surf & Paddle Pro Am Events is led by husband-and-wife team Brian and Leslie Terhorst, (www.BLTMD.com) Together they produced all 5 seasons of The Sunday X3 Paddle Race Series.

Leslie served as Race Director throughout the entire Sunday X3 Paddle Race Series, overseeing athlete registration, securing proper permitting, insurance and the all-important task of timing — a role that demanded intense focus and endurance, often taking a serious physical toll. Her commitment to keeping things fair and accurate never wavered.

Brian handled event and course planning, branding & logistics. He also jumped behind the mic as MC for most events and managed water safety from a Sea-Doo during long distance races.

Together they secured major sponsor partnerships, bringing on powerhouse names like Red Bull, Chevrolet, Anheuser-Busch, Essentia Water, Kings Paddle Sports, QuickBlade, BRU Surf, Bomber Sunglasses, Xterra Boards, Kicker Audio, Cali Paddle, Board & Brew, Surfrider Foundation, and many more.

We owe a massive shoutout to our good friend and legendary Race Start Master, Bob Long – his essential safety meetings before each event, precise calls and cool command at the starting line helped set the tone for every race and were a huge part of what made the series run so smoothly.

Additional thanks to supporting sponsors like Starboard SUP, West Coast Paddle Sports, Werner Paddles, ISLE Paddle Boards, Kono’s Coffee. We have to acknowledge our friends at Rock & Roll San Diego, and Mission Bay Sportscenter, who supplied much needed sound equipment and water safety Vessels. They helped create the vibe and fuel the stoke. Racers left with stacked swag bags, great memories, and sunburned smiles.

And of course, we couldn’t have done it without our amazing volunteers, timers, safety crews, and every helping hand — you know who you are, and we’re endlessly grateful. Mahalo and thank you all!
