For 12 exciting seasons, the Revolt Summer Surf Series Pier II Pier Pro Am made waves along the Southern California coast with four action-packed events each summer in Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach and La Jolla Shores in beautiful San Diego. More than just surf contests, these events created a vibrant space where hundreds of young athletes returned year after year—not only to compete, but to grow. The series became a platform for teaching sportsmanship, perseverance, and community values, helping shape a generation of competitors both in and out of the water.
RVLT Surf & Paddle Pro Am Events is led by husband-and-wife team Brian and Leslie Terhorst, (www.BLTMD.com) the driving force behind the Revolt Summer Surf Series — one of Southern California’s most respected and longest-running grassroots surf events.
Leslie served as Event Director, managing all divisions, athlete coordination, permitting, insurance, and day-of operations. Her organizational precision and commitment ensured each contest ran smoothly from check-in to finals. Brian took on the role of Event Coordinator, overseeing infrastructure, water safety, staffing, logistics, branding and major sponsorships.
Through their leadership, the series attracted powerhouse partners like Red Bull, Chevrolet, Anheuser-Busch, Rock And Roll San Diego, Smith Optics, and Kicker Audio, along with core surf industry brands such as Gordon & Smith, FireWire, Doyle, Kings Paddlesports, Matuse, Xterra, Sector 9, Arbor, and local surf shops including: Liquid Foundation, South Coast, Rip Curl and Mitch’s Surf Shop. The sponsor roster perfectly captured the energy and style of the Southern California surf scene, and athletes regularly left with killer swag bags packed with high-quality gear and one-of-a-kind event merch. Season champions won all inclusive trips to surf resorts in Fiji, Nicaragua, and Cabo San Lucas. Who does that?
Their partnerships with Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Coastkeeper, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and The San Diego Burn Institute remained strong throughout the entire series, reflecting a long-standing commitment to community, environmental awareness, and meaningful causes. The Revolt Summer Surf Series wasn’t just about competition — it was about community, culture, and creating an inclusive platform for emerging talent and local legends alike. From beach vibes to pro-level heats, the series delivered memorable moments year after year.
